Business and Tax Changes – March 2023

Mainly affecting the Hospitality sector, Hotels, restaurants, take – aways, hairdressers, café, etc.

  • Government confirmed an extension of the temporary reduced 9% VAT rate for the hospitality and tourism sectors to 31 August 2023.
  • Also changes were made to the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme (TBESS). If your energy costs have gone up by at least 30% per unit from September 2022 to May 2023 in comparison to that of the previous year you can claim back 50% of the increase through Revenue.
  • Tenants of residential properties can claim a rent tax credit for 2022, €500 per person or €1,000 in the case of a jointly assessed couple. For 2022 this can be claimed on the 2022 income tax return and for 2023 real time via Revenue ROS myaccount.
